DETAILED ITINERARY
DAY1: Fes – Ifrane – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Merzouga Desert
Pick-up at 07 :30 am from your hotel/Riad in Fes by your private driver/guide. We highly recommend starting our journey the earliest the better as you need to be in the Sahara desert of Merzouga before the sun sets. Our first stop after driving through the nearby plain is in the charmin town of Ifrane. It is often called the Switzerland version city of Morocco because of its Alpian architecture.
We will have a nice drive through the cedar forest of the Middle Atlas that hosts a colony of Barbary Macaques. After having lunch near Midelt, we will continue on the track crossing the spectacular High-Atlas Mountains, then include a short break for taking pictures in the panoramic palm valley of Ziz before arriving in the majestic sand dunefield of Erg Chebbi.
A warm welcome by the staff members with mint tea, pastries and nuts as a Moroccan ritual. You may want to stretch your legs in the soft sand dunes before enjoying a delicious meal for dinner by the pool or inside our atmospheric restaurant. Spend the night in a nice Riad by the edge of the sand dunes.
Day2: Explore the Desert Area & Camel Trek
Early wake up in the morning, we will invite you to climb the majestic sand dune to attend the miraculous view of the sunrise. Have a refreshing breakfast under the sunlight, take a shower, and then resume our journey by exploring the desert area.
Learn about the traditional system of irrigation known as “Khettaras”, visit the Khamlia village, which is resided by people with dark complexion who were brought as slaves from the Sub-Saharan Lands. They are known for the spiritual “Gnawa Music”, which they perform to guest-visitors.
Have a tour around the majestic dunes offering stunning views. We will visit a local nomad family that lives in the tent sharing with them a mint tea and learning about their lifestyle. After lunch, we will return back to the Riad for our camel ride trek in the golden dunes. Enjoy the panoramic view of the sunset before spending a romantic night in a luxury desert camp.
Day3: Merzouga Desert – Erfoud – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley
Early wake up in the morning as we will invite to climb the sand dune up to attend the majestic view of the sunrise. After having breakfast and taking a refreshing shower, we will continue on the track further west. We will include a short break in the city of Erfoud, which is known for fossil factories and dates. Later, we will stretch our legs in the impressive Todra Gorge (Canyon) that has attracted mountain climbers from all over the world.
We will spend our third night in the lush Dades Valley in an authentic and comfortable hotel/Riad.
Day4: Dades Valley – Nomad Caves – Skoura – Ouarzazate
After having breakfast in your hotel/Riad in the Dades Valley, we will resume our journey to Ouarzazate (Hollywood of Africa) passing by Ait Boutaghrar Village and visiting a nomad family still lives in case. Drive through the valley of roses, Skoura where we will visit the striking Amredil Kasbah before arriving in Ouarzazate.
This city is known for the Atlas Film Studios that have attracted producers from all over the world. Among the films that were shot in the region are Cleopatra, Lawrence of Arabia, Kingdom of Heavn, Prince of Persia, Gladiator and many others.
Day5: Ouarzazate – Ait Benhaddou – Atlas Mountains – Marrakech
Today is our final day in the interesting desert tour from Fes to Marrakech, we will head to Marrakech but on the way, we will include a guided walking tour of the Ait Benhaddou Village. This Ksar is listed by the UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and has been used as a backdrop for shooting numerous Hollywood films.
Later, we will continue on the track by crossing the spectacular High-Atlas Mountains over the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2260 m). Arrive in Marrakech in the evening and we will make sure to get you to your accommodation hassle-free.
